IntraLase

Discover IntraLase
We’re the only West Texas provider of IntraLase, a uniquely safe, computer-controlled, no-blade alternative to traditional LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis). This exceptional technology provides a less invasive approach to the critical first step of the LASIK laser vision correction procedure.

This step, traditionally performed with a surgical blade, is now done by laser, making every procedure more predictable. This remarkable precision, provided by IntraLase technology, makes laser vision correction a comfortable and confident choice with reduced complications and better outcomes.

VISX Advantage

Learn More About VISX
We use the highly preferred VISX Star 4 Excimer Laser exclusively to perform all laser procedures. The VISX WaveScan is one of the machines used to perform evaluations in preparation for laser treatments for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

On procedure day, anesthetic drops will be instilled into your eyes. A flap will be created with a laser if your procedure is LASIK or the surface cells will be gently swept away if you have PRK. Your information is transferred from the WaveScan to the laser if you qualify and if you would benefit from CustomVue iDESIGN Technology. Both procedures usually take seconds. Most patients experience very little pain, if any. In many cases, you might notice visual improvement immediately which should continue to improve over time.

PRK

What is PRK?
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) is a laser procedure that uses a laser to correct vision. However, before such, the surface of the cornea must be removed by some means. With LASIK, a flap is created, the cornea is lasered and the flap is put back into place. During PRK, the surface cells of the cornea are gently swept away, the cornea is lasered and a soft contact lens is put in place to act as a protective barrier.

The contact is worn for about 5 days and is removed by an eye doctor. After PRK, one should experience functional vision but it will most likely be foggy for a while. With LASIK, the vision outcome is quicker than with PRK.

Epi-LASEK

Learn more about Epi-LASEK
Epi-LASEK (not a misspelling of LASIK) is simply a modified PRK procedure. It differs in that—after numbing drops—a few drops of a very dilute alcohol solution are applied to a central area on the surface of the cornea for about 20 – 30 seconds. This weak alcohol solution is then rinsed off the surface of the eye.

The function of the weak alcohol solution is to loosen the epithelial layer (50 microns) and to allow it to be draped back in a sheet of epithelial cells, thereby exposing the underlying Bowman’s layer. The laser is then applied to Bowman’s layer in the same fashion as in PRK.

Monovision

What is monovision?
People usually lose their ability to see close up around the age of 45 (+/-). Hence, reading glasses are usually required. Monovision might be a solution for such. Monovision is when the dominant eye is fully corrected and the non-dominant eye is slightly under-corrected, thus reducing dependency on reading glasses. More will be explained to you during the consultation phase of your FREE screening appointment. As well, your eye doctor will be your best resource to help you with this decision.
