David R. Gibson, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. David R. Gibson attended Texas Tech University and the University of Houston, College of Optometry. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1975 and his Doctor of Optometry in 1977. Upon graduation, Dr. Gibson was inducted into the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society for his leadership and service while in Optometry school
He began in private practice in Plano, TX from 1977 to 1979. He moved to Lubbock and has been in private practice since then with Dr. J. Davis Armistead (RET) and Dr. Van Moore. Recently, his son Bryan has graduated from Optometry School and has begun his professional career with his dad. Dr. David Gibson is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, and the South Plains Optometric Association, as well as serving as a past president of the South Plains Optometric Association. He is certified as an Optometric Glaucoma specialist by the Texas Optometry Board He is a Fellow in American Academy of Optometry and a Clinical Examiner with National Board of Optometry. Dr. Gibson also has been the contributing editor for the Optometry Coding and Billing Alert and has done some lecturing on Coding in the Optometric Office. In 1999, Dr. Gibson was a co-founder of LASER EYE CENTER OF LUBBOCK.
Dr. Gibson is active in his community. He is a 1983 graduate of Leadership Lubbock and a member of Lubbock Lions Club where he serves on the board of directors for the Lubbock Lions Club Foundation. He also serves as the President of the Lubbock Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Dr. Gibson has a long history with Boy Scouts of America being an Eagle Scout, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, is Woodbadge trained, has served on the faculty for several adult leader training sessions, and is a merit badge counselor in watersports. Dr. Gibson has been a financial sponsor for Texas Tech Waterski Team.
Dr. Gibson has more hobbies than time to enjoy them, but tries to get away to the lake for some waterskiing as often as possible.
